Week 79  This week we get some brass deck covering

The brass parts are not gong to be fitted until I've got next weeks parts,  This is so that I can fit all the related parts at once to make sure I get a perfect fit.

However, I've decided to fit the plastic deck covering this week.

The forward parts have been carefully trimmed, and the cut-out for the grills carefully measured and cut.  It helps to have the grill available to make sure you haven't mis-measured.  They are glued in place with a very thin smear of 20 minute epoxy.  I used this rather than contact adhesive so I could move then slightly before the glue went off.

Next I trimmed the rear section to size, measured and marked the position of the hatches, and glued them in place with super glue.

Finally this was glued in  place with epoxy glue, making sure it's well pressed down.  You don't want any air bubbles.

The last job is to run a very sharp blade round the circular cut-outs to trim the plastic card back to the ply deck.  

Next come the curved wind shield and hand rails.  These were supplied in last week.

The wind shield was curved by my usual technique of rolling it on a rubber sheet with the handle of a craft knife.  Use the quadrant as a template to see when you've got the right curve.

Glue it in place carefully with super glue.  

Next I added the handrails in the order shown in the photos.

You need a steady hand for the hand rails.

Hot tip of the week

Leave the circular cutouts over sized, and do the final trim once they are in place, for the perfect fit.
