Week 28  This week we get some more of the rear superstructure

The bits we received

And what we did with them

This parts seems to be the deckhouse, but I stand to be corrected on this.  The first part of the construction is very straight forward.  The slots in parts 105 & 111 needed a gentle sanding so that the walls, 106 & 107 were flush.  Apart from that, just make sure everything is square and true.

A dry fit of 112, 113 & 115 showed that 115 was proud of 111.  They should form a flat surface when glued together.  This was fixed by thinning down parts 112 & 113 until 115 sat flush with 111.  Easy to do with a sanding block and coarse sandpaper.  Just check it frequently.

The parts 110 & 114 were a bit of a sloppy fit, but I resisted the temptation to pull the uprights in tight.  Make sure the uprights stay truly upright and don't worry about the sloppy fit.  The small gap can be filled later in necessary.

This little sub assembly it a bit tricky.  The slots in part 116 needed sanding a little as above so that the walls 117 & 118 were flush with parts that go on top.  Take your time to make sure it's all square and flat.

Now add parts 119 & 120.  I pushed 119 forward as far as it would go.  That left a small step behind it on the side walls which I trimmed out with a knife.  When I test fitted this in the main sub assembly (called subassembly A in the mag) there was a gap between part 120 and part 114.  This was fixed by trimming approx 0.5mm off the end of walls 114 & 115.

Suggestion : Later is the series, at issue 61, the sub assembly below appears to be too short.  I'd suggest that you don't glue it in place until after receiving issue 61.

You need to make sure that the above assembly is straight and central on sub assembly A.  I drew a centre line, and then measure out by 19.5mm and drew 2 parallel lines.

Now glue the two parts together, making sure the upper part is true to the lines.

Job's a good 'un.
