Week 21  This week we get the last section of deck

The bits we received

And what we did with them

The last two pieces of ply for the main deck are glued in place.  As before, I'm not going to apply the gauze.  I just can't see the need, especially on the underside of the deck.

I did run into one minor problem.  The parts were a little short, probably a knock on from the front deck pieces being a little short in issue 17.

This was easily solved by inserting a scrap of plank edgewise.  That left the ends overhanging a tad, which was easily sanded off.

I'm going to leave the stern part 63 until later.  I don't want to fix any of the deck until the bit of planking at the top is completely finished.

I've decided to fit the stern deck part 63 now as I'm ready to fit the stern resin casting as well.  I painted the inside of this part of the hull with a couple of coats of varnish first, then glued part 63 in place.  The stern removable deck was put in position to make sure that the parts all lined up accurately.

Stern planking
Fitting the fore deck
Stern deck part 63 not fitted.

Hot tip of the week

Store the deck either somewhere flat or on the hull.  That should help avoid it taking on a twist.
