Week 18  This week we get the forward deck

The bits we received

And what we did with them

The magazine suggests caulking the inside of the hull with white glue and gauze.  I'm not going to bother with this.  It looks like a messy job, and I think that the hull will be strong enough without it.  I shall paint the inside of the hull with varnish at a later date to waterproof it.  The inside of the hull only needs to be waterproof against splashes.  You shouldn't get any more than the odd splash of water inside the hull.

I'm not going to do a great deal with the front deck just yet.  I don't want to fit it at all until the top planking is completed.  Also, I want to try and motorise the turrets.  Therefore the front deck will need to be removed to fit the servo mechanism, and may in fact need to be removable anyway.  Therefore I've just joined it with two very small offcuts from the planking for the moment.  These can be easily removed at a later date.

When I do glue it in place (at the end of week 23) it will just be tacked into position with some very small spots of glue so it can be easily removed later.

Hot tip of the week

If you're going to make modifications, leave your options as open as possible until you know exactly what you're going to do, and how it will affect anything else.
